Alexander James

My name is Alexander James Yolevski. I’m a singer/songwriter who plays piano, synthesizer, guitar, and drums. People ask me what kind of music I write and I find this question difficult to answer namely, because my music reflects many styles. I am very influenced by a wide variety of music and it shows in my material. Perhaps I could say I write rock music, including many ballads, but then I would be leaving out many other genres that may be included in my material. I was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and lived in Scarborough for 15 years until I recently moved to the East York region of Toronto. Friends, family, and just random people who have heard my music have been overwhelmed and impressed while listening to my music. A lot of my friends and people around my age have been able to relate to it and listen to my music in times of happiness, depression, isolation, and anger. A common response I get from listeners is “catchy and original”, which I appreciate to the greatest extent.

Presently, I’m finishing up a rough demo CD recorded in my basement studio. The quality is fairly good but I am improving it considering my studio is gradually becoming more professional as more and more equipment is being added to it. I write, arrange, compose, perform, record and produce my own material. The name of my CD will be called The Black Rose LP and I am unsure as to how many tracks it will consist of considering I have many tracks of my material with many different attributes that make each song special and its one of a kind. Currently, I have over 20 rough recordings not including material that is yet to be recorded and “brought to life”. More live shows in the near future are to be planned hopefully sooner than later because of the amount of time that is being used on the album. I have a certain amount of my music on the Internet on certain websites for online listeners as well. I am excited to get my material heard and on its way.

I’ve grown up with music and it has always been there for me through all times of my life. Music has been there for me through excitement, anger, depression, isolation, sadness, and jealousy. The adrenaline rush I get from music is unexplainable and is impossible to be understood. I have always been in front of a crowd and have always felt it to be my job to make sure my audience gets what they came for and is satisfied when they leave my presence. From early childhood to now I have left numerous impressions on people and a large amount of satisfaction. No matter the event, Lip Sync, Public Speaking, Talent Night, or Battle of the Bands I have always been determined and focused on being the “showstopper” or the “highlight of the night”. I make sure to give more than what I have inside of me and make sure the audience feels what I am feeling and sure enough I make the event a success.

My goal is to give people a feeling that they have never felt before. I plan to give people something to relate to and motivate them like they have never been motivated before. I plan to give people’s ears music they have never felt so close to before. If writing my music could save me from another suicide attempt then it will most definitely save somebody else from his or her own problems. I pray to get my music out so that I can save people just like music saved me…literally. I hope for The Black Rose LP to become the ultimate connection between music and people and of course, to just become something great that people enjoy listening to.

I am most appreciative of when people connect with my music on an emotional or spiritual level. The biggest reward I can get in life is the satisfaction that another person got from listening to my music. I know my role as an artist has been fulfilled when a person comes up to me and says “Hey man, awesome song!” I hope to get in the studio very soon to record a better quality version of my tracks and hopefully get The Black Rose LP out to as many people as possible.

I have gotten a lot of help by many people to get me on my way and hopefully in a direction I have been dreaming of since I was a toddler. I am very grateful for all the support I have received from everyone and I will never forget them. Like my music teacher Mr. Marrone says, “Who’s your number one fan besides your mother?”
